The FTA has initiated various measures to support businesses in compliance with the newly introduced VAT in UAE. Businesses can learn the various intricacies of the VAT law as well as find solutions to issues or difficulties faced in compliance under VAT. Let us understand the various support channels introduced by FTA and how you can use them.
The FTA has created various e-learning modules to assist businesses to learn the fundamentals as well as advanced topics in VAT. Businesses can use these modules to train the relevant staff in their organisation on the business’ compliance obligations under VAT. The FTA also provides live training sessions and webinars which can be attended by taxpayers to learn more about VAT.
These e-learning modules can be accessed from FTA's new website www.tax.gov.ae.
The FTA has designated phone as well as email helplines to assist taxpayers in compliance under VAT. Trained staff will assist you in your queries.
Phone helpline: 600 599 994
Email helpline: info@tax.gov.ae
Types of assistance provided:
Note that the helpline will not be able to give you advice on case specific transactions or specialised topics. However, the helpline will be able to guide you to an alternative channel for such queries, if it is appropriate to do so.
A tax agent is a qualified and licensed professional who can be appointed by taxable persons to assist them in their compliance activities under VAT. These professionals are licensed by the FTA, after a thorough checking of their qualifications and experience in the tax domain as well as knowledge through a tax agent exam. The FTA also maintains a tax agent register for every tax agent in which all matters related to the tax agent’s professional conduct will be lodged.
You can learn more about tax agents in our article 'Tax agent under UAE VAT'.
Taxpayers can view the list of registered tax agents in the FTA portal in this link.
Note that it is not compulsory to appoint a tax agent for your compliance activities. In case you appoint a tax agent, it is important to remember that the responsibility for the accuracy of your compliance obligations remains with your business.
A tax accounting software is developed to accurately capture and produce accounting information for tax reporting. Instituting an automated system by businesses to maintain a record of taxes will decrease the error in tax declaration and thus reduce compliance costs and penalties. In addition, the software will be able to generate reports in order to keep track of your tax obligations. Based on a set of guidelines, the FTA is in the process of accrediting certain tax accounting software providers. Taxpayers can choose an appropriate tax accounting software to ease their compliance activities.
Hence, the FTA has developed various mechanisms to assist businesses in accurately performing compliance activities under VAT. Taxpayers should make use of the appropriate channels to increase their knowledge of VAT and find answers to their queries and difficulties.
